Abstract:	The author highlights an undergraduate senior seminar titled "History and Literature" that he organized in Spring Semester 2017 in which the main project was a close reading of Victor Hugo's 1862 book "Les Misérables." Topics include the challenge of getting students to take up the task of reading the 1,300-page book, a background on the life of Hugo and some of the story behind the writing of the book as discussed in the seminar and the author's view about the importance of the seminar.
