The article provides information on the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) 2021, which reveals that almost a quarter of pupils in Northern Ireland demonstrated advanced reading skills, with 23 percent reaching the Advanced international benchmark. Girls outperformed boys, and pupils eligible for Free School Meals had lower reading literacy, indicating the need to address socio-economic disadvantage in attainment. |
