Abstract (English): Middle-level support for school leaders has gained significance in educational improvement research and policies aimed at enhancing the capacity development of school leaders and teachers. This paper presents a systematic review of the academic literature on middle-level support to school leaders, with the goal of deepening our understanding of the topic. Fifteen articles published between 2010-2021, were selected from international databases (Scopus, ERIC, WoS and Scielo) using a search strategy. The review describes and synthesizes the knowledge generated from this article. The findings reveal that the study of support and assistance to school leaders from middle-levels is an emerging focus of international research. The review provides a comprehensive overview of the design and scope of the published articles. Additionally, it identifies three theoretical approaches and dimensions from which knowledge is derived. The article concludes by offering insights for further research development, and making projections for policy and practice based on the reviewed information. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Spanish): Los niveles intermedios del sistema escolar han cobrado relevancia en la investigación en mejora educativa y en políticas que promueven un sistema comprometido con el desarrollo de capacidades de líderes escolares y docentes. Con el propósito de profundizar en el conocimiento producido, el presente trabajo examina la literatura académica sobre el apoyo del nivel intermedio a líderes escolares. Se realiza una descripción y síntesis del conocimiento, elaboradas a partir de la revisión de quince artículos publicados entre 2010 y 2021, seleccionados desde una estrategia de búsqueda en bases de datos internacionales (Scopus, ERIC, WoS y SciELO). Los resultados dan cuenta de que el estudio del apoyo y asistencia a líderes escolares desde niveles intermedios es un foco emergente de investigación a nivel internacional. Asimismo, se describen las características del diseño y alcance de las investigaciones publicadas, junto con tres enfoques teóricos y dimensiones desde los cuales se produce conocimiento. El artículo cierra con conclusiones para el desarrollo de investigaciones, y con proyecciones para la política y la práctica a partir de la información revisada. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
