In Ecuador, catastrophic diseases have constitutional support and priority attention to protect the rights to health and work of those who suffer from them, but the lack of a specific legal framework relating the right to work and catastrophic diseases is evident. A study carried out in Guayaquil seeks to propose legal reforms to strengthen the protection of the labor rights of this population. The analysis examined current legislation, court cases and international recommendations, identifying deficiencies in the application of these rights. Expert judgment was used to support the formulation of reform proposals to the Labor Code, with the aim of improving the protection of the rights of those facing catastrophic illnesses in Ecuador. En Ecuador, las enfermedades catastróficas cuentan con respaldo constitucional y atención prioritaria para proteger los derechos a la salud y el trabajo de quienes las padecen, pero la falta de un marco legal específico relacionando el derecho al trabajo y las enfermedades catastróficas es evidente. Un estudio realizado en Guayaquil busca proponer reformas legales para fortalecer la protección de los derechos laborales de esta población. El análisis examinó la legislación vigente, casos judiciales y recomendaciones internacionales, identificando deficiencias en la aplicación de estos derechos. Se utilizó el criterio de expertos para respaldar la formulación de propuestas de reforma al Código Laboral, con el objetivo de mejorar la protección de los derechos de quienes enfrentan enfermedades catastróficas en Ecuador.
