Abstract: In this article, the relationship between intelligence and the placing and supporting reactions has been subjected to statistical examination in groups of children with mental retardation. The placing reaction was testable in all the cases including the ones with different kinds of severe disability, e.g. children with spasticity in flexion and strong grasp reflex. This was not always the case with the supporting reaction. Approximately one-third of these children had, in addition to their intellectual impairment, some degree of motor disorder.
