The article focuses on the innovative Learning Societies program initiated by Gem Prep, a network of K–12 charter schools in Idaho, which aims to provide a hybrid educational model for families hesitant to engage with traditional schooling or full-time online education. Launched in the 2022–23 school year, the program combines online learning with in-person instruction in small groups, catering particularly to students from low-performing rural districts or those previously homeschooled. Despite facing operational challenges in its inaugural year, the program demonstrated significant academic progress among its students, with many achieving proficiency in reading and math by the end of the year.
