Abstract (English): The objective of this research is to describe the reality of reading habits, the importance of reading as a learning tool and the benefits for the mental health of students and teachers at the Uniandes Faculty of Medicine, Santo Domingo. Survey, interview and direct observation methods were used. The findings revealed that most students and teachers surveyed spend little time on the habit of reading. These results provide a valuable basis for the implementation of strategies that encourage reading and optimize learning techniques, thus promoting psychological and academic well-being in the Faculty of Medicine community. Abstract (Spanish): El objetivo de esta investigación es describir la realidad de los hábitos lectores, la importancia de la lectura como herramienta de aprendizaje y los beneficios para la salud mental de estudiantes y docentes de la Facultad de Medicina de la Uniandes, Santo Domingo. Se emplearon métodos de encuesta, entrevista y observación directa. Los hallazgos revelaron que la mayoría de los estudiantes y docentes encuestados dedican poco tiempo al hábito de la lectura. Estos resultados proporcionan una base valiosa para la implementación de estrategias que fomenten la lectura y optimicen las técnicas de aprendizaje, promoviendo así el bienestar psicológico y académico en la comunidad de la Facultad de Medicina.
