Abstract (English):	Introduction. Early school leaving has negative consequences for the individual and society. Aim. To accurately define the concept and the procedures through which the phenomenon can be measured. Method. Narrative bibliographical review of the main international data bases. Results. Profound differences have been found in the measurement criteria along with a severe terminological confusion. Conclusions and discussion. The study involves a fundamental clarification of the terminological conceptualization and early school leaving phenomenon measurement. This is of great importance for the correct interpretation of studies on the subject and international comparisons between measurement indexes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Spanish):	Introducción. El abandono escolar temprano supone consecuencias negativas para la persona y la sociedad. Objetivo. Determinar con precisión el concepto y los procedimientos de medición del fenómeno. Método. Revisión bibliográfica narrativa de las principales bases de datos internacionales. Se seleccionaron 48 artículos entre 411 localizados. Resultados. Se observan variaciones sustanciales en la medición de la tasa de abandono, así como cierta confusión conceptual. Conclusiones y discusión. El estudio supone una clarificación fundamental de la conceptualización terminológica y de su medición, de suma importancia para la correcta interpretación de los estudios al respecto y las comparaciones internacionales entre los índices de medición.
