Abstract (English): This document presents analysis and discussion on the importance of incorporating historical notions, for the teaching of the electromagnetic theory of light proposed by James Clerk Maxwell, from the second half of the 19th century; with the purpose of contributing to improve the interest and conceptual understanding of the principles of physics involved in Physics courses, and thereby improve the learning of students and scholars of the subject. Abstract (Spanish): Este documento presenta análisis y discusión sobre la importancia de incorporar nociones históricas, para la enseñanza de la teoría electromagnética de la luz planteada por James Clerk Maxwell, a partir de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX; con el propósito de contribuir a mejorar el interés y la comprensión conceptual de los principios de la física involucrados en cursos de Física, y con ello mejorar el aprendizaje de alumnos y estudiosos del tema.
