Abstract: Metadata standardization is crucial for ensuring consistency and interoperability within global library networks. The influence of the English language on this process is profound, impacting how metadata standards are developed, implemented, and used internationally. This paper explores the role of English as a dominant language in shaping metadata standards, examining its effects on global library practices, data sharing, and cross-cultural information exchange. Through a review of existing literature, case studies, and interviews with metadata professionals, this research identifies the benefits and challenges associated with the predominance of English in metadata standardization. It argues that while English facilitates global communication and uniformity, it also poses barriers for non-English speaking regions, affecting the inclusivity and effectiveness of metadata standards. The paper concludes with recommendations for balancing linguistic diversity and standardization to enhance global library networks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
