Abstract: This article explores the relationship between personal and professional identity with regard to artist-teacher identity. The narrative given here is a 'self-portrait', presented in autoethnographic qualitative descriptive accounts of artworks and personal and professional anecdotes. Social and cultural issues arise within the article concerning sexuality and social class and their relationship with art and teaching. Ultimately, the article aims to highlight how reflecting and sharing one's artistic work may inform pedagogy due to the rich knowledge exchanges between teaching practitioners, artists and learners.
