Abstract (English): On the journey of developing a strong culture in China, Chinese red films play a significant role in international publicity, foreign exchanges and cooperation. However, scholarly attention to the translation of Chinese red films is inadequate. By applying the "5Ws" of Communication proposed by Harold Lasswell to the film translation, this paper systematically summarizes evolving phases of Chinese red film translation since the founding of the People's Republic of China, and analyzes the characteristics of each stage from the four aspects of translation communicator, information, media and audience, so as to grasp the development context of red film translation. It is found that the history of Chinese red film translation can be divided into the initial stage, recovery stage, transition stage and development stage. The translation factors in each stage show a gradual trend of extensive, commercial and diversified evolution, as its evolution and development are closely related to the artistic, political, economic and technological environment. This paper further suggests strengthening the communication planning of red films and realizing diversified communication through effective cooperation mechanism, so as to promote the sustainable development of Chinese red film translation.
