| Abstract (English): | Objective: The article outlines the key moments in the history of music education in Paraguay, particularly the establishment of the Paraguayan Athenaeum in 1972 and its subsequent nationwide expansion under the Ministry of Education and Worship. The text distinguishes the concept of music education from the current concept of music teaching in the country. The text contextualizes the educational phenomenon within the framework of Argentina's and Brazil's cultural dependence, followed by the influence of the United States. Originality/Contribution: The article is a review for the construction of a history of music education in Paraguay. It also highlights its origins in the Ateneo. Method: Basic qualitative research analyzing the phenomenon of music education in Paraguay. Information gathering strategies: Relevant bibliographic information was consulted to understand the situational context. Regarding music education, primary sources from the Paraguayan Athenaeum Archive (AAP) were used. The oral tradition collection effectively contributed to the narrative. Conclusions: In 1972, the Ateneo introduced music education in Paraguay. This discipline was later adopted by the MEC and incorporated into the official curriculum until 1993. | Abstract (Spanish): | Objetivo: el artículo describe los aspectos más destacados de la historia de la educación musical en Paraguay, especialmente sobre la fundación del Ateneo Paraguayo en 1972 y su expansión nacional por parte del entonces Ministerio de Educación y Culto. Diferencia el concepto de educación musical del concepto de enseñanza de la música que existe actualmente en el país. El texto articula el fenómeno educativo en el contexto de la dependencia cultural de Argentina y Brasil primero, y de la influencia de los Estados Unidos, después. Originalidad/Aporte: el artículo es una reseña para la construcción de una historia de la educación musical en Paraguay. Al mismo tiempo, visibiliza su origen en el Ateneo. Método: investigación básica de carácter cualitativo, que analiza el fenómeno de la educación musical en Paraguay. Estrategias de recolección de información: para comprender el contexto situacional se consultó información bibliográfica pertinente. Respecto a la educación musical, se recurrió a fuentes primarias conservadas en el Archivo del Ateneo Paraguayo (AAP). La recopilación de la tradición oral ha contribuido eficazmente al relato. Conclusiones: el Ateneo pone en marcha en 1972 la educación musical en el Paraguay, disciplina posteriormente incorporada por el MEC al programa oficial de estudios hasta 1993. | Abstract (Portuguese): | Objetivo: O artigo descreve os aspectos mais destacados da história da educação musical no Paraguai, destacando a sua implementação no Ateneo Paraguayo em 1972 e a sua expansão a nível nacional. Diferencia o conceito de educação musical do conceito de ensino da música que existe atualmente no país. O texto articula o fenómeno educativo no contexto da dependência cultural da Argentina e do Brasil, primeiro, e da influência dos Estados Unidos, depois. Delinear aspectos relevantes da história da educação musical no Paraguai desde a sua implementação no Ateneo em 1972 e a sua posterior projeção a nível nacional pelo então Ministério da Educação e Culto. Originalidade/Contribuição: O artigo constitui uma resenha para a construção de uma história da educação musical no Paraguai. Ao mesmo tempo, torna visível a sua origem no Ateneo. Método: Investigação básica de caráter qualitativo, que analisa o fenómeno da educação musical no Paraguai. Estratégias de recolha de informação: Para o contexto situacional, foi consultada informação bibliográfica pertinente. No que diz respeito à educação musical, foram utilizadas fontes primárias conservadas no Arquivo do Ateneo Paraguayo (AAP). A recolha da tradição oral contribuiu eficazmente para o relato.
