Abstract (English): Throughout his career, Zygmunt Bauman published over fifty titles, which were widely received both inside and outside academia. Such popularity was not without controversy. Critics such as Rancière (2014) accuse him of focusing more on social problems than on solutions, which could lead to political immobility among readers. Although this criticism holds some relevance, it does not do justice to Bauman’s unwavering defense of human rights and of a society grounded in collective well-being. Thus, this study aims to demonstrate, in light of dialectical materialism and through bibliographic research, to what extent Bauman’s work approaches and distances itself from postmodern pessimism, in order to assess its educational applicability. The conclusion is that his playful dialogue with literary fiction represents a major contribution to establishing a form of sociability guided by values beyond mere individualism. Abstract (Spanish): A lo largo de su trayectoria, Zygmunt Bauman publicó más de media centena de títulos, con amplia recepción dentro y fuera del ámbito académico. Tamaña popularidad no estuvo exenta de polémicas. Críticos como Rancière (2014) lo acusan de centrarse más en los problemas sociales que en las soluciones, lo que podría conducir a la inmovilidad política entre los lectores. Aunque posea cierta pertinencia, el destaque anterior no hace justicia a la defensa intransigente de los derechos humanos y de una sociedad del bienestar común utilizada por Bauman. Así, el presente trabajo pretende demostrar, a la luz del materialismo dialéctico y por medio de investigación bibliográfica, en qué medida la obra de Bauman se aproxima y se distancia del pesimismo posmoderno, con el fin de evaluar su aplicabilidad educativa. La conclusión es que su diálogo lúdico con la ficción literaria es una gran contribución al establecimiento de una sociabilidad basada en valores que van más allá del mero individualismo. Abstract (Portuguese): Ao longo da carreira, Zygmunt Bauman publicou mais de meia centena de títulos, com ampla recepção dentro e fora da academia. Tamanha popularidade não foi isenta de polêmicas. Críticos como Rancière (2014) o acusam de se debruçar mais sobre os problemas sociais do que sobre as soluções, o que poderia suscitar um imobilismo político entre os leitores. Ainda que guarde certa pertinência, a ressalva anterior não faz justiça à defesa intransigente dos direitos humanos e de uma sociedade de bem-estar comum encampada por Bauman. Assim, o presente trabalho pretende demonstrar, à luz do materialismo dialético e por meio de pesquisa bibliográfica, em que medida a obra de Bauman se aproxima e se afasta do pessimismo pós-moderno, a fim de aquilatar sua aplicabilidade educacional. A conclusão é que seu diálogo lúdico com a ficção literária representa uma importante contribuição para o estabelecimento de uma sociabilidade pautada por valores que não apenas o individualismo.
