In order to educate for change, it is essential to unpack students' mathematical thinking. The Common Core State Standards emphasize the importance of attending to structural thinking. This theoretical paper introduces a framework for analyzing cognitive actions associated with structural thinking. Drawing from the literature, it identifies categories of structural thinking, delineates types of structures, and explores cognitive actions associated with each category. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
