| Abstract (English): | The goal of this article is to clarify definitions and functions of models, especially in the context of science teaching, in order to better understand their use. Models in science are much more than simplifications or a reliable portrait of the reality of natural entities and phenomena; even though they are usually regarded within a limited and essentially imagetic perspective. Models tend to be ontological and epistemological entities, and are therefore essentially fundamental to the sciences, especially the natural sciences as they represent beings and entities of nature and consequently lead to understanding of these entities. Thus, it is relevant to understand the extent of the models, their classifications, functions and their relationship with natural sciences. Therefore, this article details the types of models, their respective applications and their relationship with natural phenomena and scientific knowledge. A dynamic perspective is taken, in which the model follows the transformation and evolution of science, not necessarily adapting to reality, but rather the explanation of what is understood (even momentarily) as real and true. | Abstract (Spanish): | El objetivo de este artículo es aclarar las definiciones y funciones de los modelos, especialmente en el contexto de la enseñanza de las ciencias, para comprender mejor su uso. Los modelos utilizados en la ciencia son mucho más que simplificaciones o un retrato fiable de la realidad de las entidades y fenómenos naturales, aunque se consideren desde una perspectiva limitada y esencialmente imaginativa. Los modelos tienden a ser entidades ontológicas y epistemológicas y, por lo tanto, son esencialmente fundamentales para las ciencias, especialmente las ciencias naturales, ya que representan seres/entidades de la naturaleza y, en consecuencia, conducen al conocimiento/comprensión de estas entidades. En este sentido, es de suma importancia comprender el alcance de los modelos, su clasificación, función y su relación con las ciencias naturales. Por lo tanto, este artículo detalla los tipos de modelos, sus consecuentes aplicaciones y su relación con los fenómenos naturales y el conocimiento científico, desde una perspectiva dinámica donde el modelo sigue la transformación y evolución de la ciencia, no necesariamente adaptándose a la realidad/verdad. explicación de lo que se entiende (aunque sea momentáneamente) como real y verdadero. | Abstract (Portuguese): | O objetivo deste artigo é esclarecer definições e funções dos modelos sobretudo no âmbito do ensino de ciências para melhor compreensão do seu uso. Modelos usados nas ciências são muito mais que simplificações ou um retrato fidedigno da realidade de entidades e fenômenos da natureza, muito embora eles sejam vistos dentro de uma perspectiva limitada e essencialmente imagética. Modelos tendem a ser entes ontológicos e epistemológicos, e por isso, são essencialmente fundamentais para as ciências, sobretudo as ciências naturais por representares seres e entidades da natureza e consequentemente levarem à compreensão dessas entidades. Nisso, é de suma importância compreender a extensão dos modelos, sua classificação, função e sua relação com as ciências naturais. Este artigo faz um detalhamento sobre os tipos de modelos, suas respectivas aplicações e sua relação com os fenômenos naturais e com o conhecimento científico. Segue-se uma ótica dinâmica, em que o modelo acompanha a transformação e evolução das ciências, adaptando-se não necessariamente à realidade, mas sim à explicação daquilo que se compreende (ainda que momentaneamente) como real e verdadeiro.
