Abstract: The article reports on the increase in numbers of students seeking the experience of elementary student teaching in the U.S. It notes that those who are associated with elementary student teaching face the prospect of increased numbers of students seeking that experience and, with the increase in students, an unusual opportunity to improve the student teaching program. Further it explains that the unusual demand for elementary teachers is not going to last indefinitely. Accordingly, those in student teaching should seek to improve the fundamental operation and equipment of their student teaching programs at both secondary and elementary levels.
