Abstract: This study examines research data management (RDM) practices, challenges, and support needs among researchers at the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), covering data stages from storage to sharing. Using a descriptive survey design, data was collected through an online questionnaire completed by researchers across ISI's diverse divisions. Results reveal varied data storage, security, and sharing approaches, with common challenges including inadequate version control, limited access to centralized storage, and concerns about data privacy. Findings indicate a strong reliance on self-management for RDM but highlight the need for institutional support, particularly in data documentation, secure storage options, and data-sharing protocols. Researchers expressed interest in an institutional repository and targeted training to enhance RDM skills. Recommendations include establishing a centralized RDM office, developing an institutional repository, and offering specialized RDM training programs. This study underscores the importance of addressing RDM support needs to foster sustainable research practices and enhance data integrity within ISI. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
