| Abstract: |
This article examines the challenges faced by Indian students pursuing higher education in Western countries, focusing on issues such as culture shock, plagiarism, employment difficulties, and barriers to permanent residency. It highlights how cultural differences, including variations in educational norms and social practices, contribute to Indian students’ adjustment difficulties, while also noting the limited awareness of plagiarism in the Indian education system as a source of academic challenges abroad. The article proposes that social workers in host countries could play a significant role in supporting Indian students through initiatives like buddy systems and cultural sensitization programs. It calls for more qualitative research to develop effective interventions and emphasizes the importance of addressing systemic and attitudinal barriers to improve the overall wellbeing and integration of Indian students in Western academic environments.
