Numerous studies have highlighted the impact of images on our ideas and judgments, but few have focused on understanding how to develop critical thinking through visual literacy. This research describes the development of visual critical thinking skills in high school students through constructivist activities with multimedia resources in a Photography course at a public high school in Mexico City. The findings highlight that contextualisation is a feature of critical thinking favoured by visual analysis, allowing for the identification of intention, time and space, hierarchy, power, class, values, feelings, and emotions. The use of multimedia resources and QRs encouraged students' interest in delving deeper into the images they analyse. The didactic implications for the development of visual critical thinking are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
