Abstract (English): INTRODUCTION. The integration of technology in education has undergone rapid and substantial growth, resulting in significant transformations in the teaching-learning process. Consequently, the skills, abilities, and behaviors that comprise digital competence, defined as have become imperative for ensuring quality education. Notwithstanding the significance of digital competence in contemporary educational practice, studies persistently underscore the necessity for interventions in this domain, owing to the inadequate levels of digital competence exhibited by teachers. The objective of this study was to assess the digital competence level of pre-service teachers enrolled in the primary education program in the Andalusian autonomous community, with a focus on identifying the prevalent challenges and difficulties. METHOD. The study sample comprised 2617 university students enrolled in the primary education teacher training who completed the "DigCompEdu Check-In" questionnaire, designed to assess adaptability to university life. RESULTS. The results indicated that students enrolled in the primary education program at Andalusian universities exhibited a low level of digital competence, with the areas requiring the most improvement being those related to professional engagement (i.e., organizational communication, professional collaboration, reflective practice, and digital training) and digital resources (i.e., selection competences and digital literacy), as well as those related to the utilization of digital resources. DISCUSSION. Digital competence in teaching has the potential to transform education, promoting meaningful learning. This is why it is necessary to ensure high quality training that prepares the teachers of the present and the future. It is therefore recommended that this study serve as a guide for the incorporation of these competencies in university curricula. This would guarantee high-quality training that prepares teachers for the present and the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Spanish): INTRODUCCIÓN. Abstract (French): INTRODUCTION. DISCUSSION. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
