Abstract: This article examines the integration of mindfulness-based journaling practices in Puerto Rican classrooms to support students facing academic, economic, and socio-political challenges. Drawing on Natalie Goldberg’s free writing techniques and a self-assessment tool called the Life Compass, the approach encourages daily reflective writing, creative expression, and emotional check-ins to foster self-awareness, stress management, and personal growth. Student reflections highlight the therapeutic and transformative effects of these practices, which help quiet inner critics, build emotional regulation, and deepen engagement with academic content. The Life Compass guides students in assessing mental, emotional, physical, and awareness states, promoting ongoing mindfulness and well-being. This integrative method offers a student-centered pathway to empowerment and resilience amid complex external stressors. [Extracted from the article]
