| Abstract: | Home telemonitoring enables continuous, long-term care for older adults. In the past decades, multiple studies have been conducted in this field. However, the current status and future trends of research on home telemonitoring for older adults remained understudied. Thus, a bibliometric analysis was performed based on existing literature published prior to March 15, 2024, in the Web of Science Core Collection. English studies were included if they focused on home telemonitoring for older adults aged 60 or over and were conducted in home settings. In total, 3433 records were identified and 442 met our inclusion criteria. Subsequently, co-authorship analysis, bibliographic coupling, and co-concurrence analysis were performed to quantify the annual publication trends in this field, identify active countries, top journals, and productive authors, yield themes, and forecast future trends based on the included studies. Overall, the number of studies in this field has increased significantly since 2013, with a peak of 59 studies published in 2021. The United States played a leading role with a contribution of 146 articles to this field, followed by China with 50 publications. The existing research emphasized physical activity monitoring and fall detection for older adults, the effects of home telemonitoring on older adults, and factors influencing the acceptance of home telemonitoring. Future studies will likely concentrate on the algorithms of home telemonitoring systems, the development of wearable devices to track older adults' physical activity, and the impact of home telemonitoring on older adults' quality of life. The review, therefore, exhibits the overall picture of home telemonitoring for older adults, providing guidance for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners in the field. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
