| Abstract: |
The article reviews two recent scholarly books focused on music analysis. The first, *Wagner Studies* (2025), edited by Steven Vande Moortele, centers on detailed musical analyses of Richard Wagner’s operas, emphasizing musical form and harmonic practice while largely excluding some previously dominant analytical paradigms. The volume includes diverse approaches, from queer theory to Riemannian tonal function, and features contributions mainly from North American, British, and German scholars. The second book, *Modeling Musical Analysis* (2024), edited by Kimberly Goddard Loeffert and John Peterson, aims to amplify minoritized voices in music theory through accessible essays covering a broad range of genres and repertoires, including classical, popular, and non-Western music, with attention to diverse composers and analytical methods. Both books are positioned as valuable resources for graduate-level music theory and musicology research. [Extracted from the article] |
