| Abstract: | Designed around student inquiry, this five-lesson unit helps second graders make sense of Next Generation Science Standard 2-PS1-4 by examining reversible and irreversible changes when materials are heated or cooled. Through a hands-on popcorn investigation, students explore core science concepts through data collection, graphing, and collaborative inquiry. The unit integrates the nature of science (NOS) and nature of technology (NOT) to deepen students' understanding of how science works, how technology supports scientific practices, and how to interpret and communicate data. Lessons are designed to be inquiry-based, developmentally appropriate, and collaborative.
