| Abstract: |
In this conceptual piece, we endeavor to formulate a radically revised framework for understanding how Black student resistance is connected to a cultural memory and heritage of struggle(s) for liberation. As we articulate our framework— educational marronage—we offer an assessment of the current state of the literature on Black student resistance, an overview of the extant work on fugitivity and its connection to educational marronage, an recollection of the current scholarly works on marronage (mostly from outside of the field of education), and several examples of how educational researchers might leverage educational marronage in their work.
