| Abstract: | The study examines the concept of the Bengali homeland by investigating selected Bengali-language advertisements of cultural products published in the mass print media of West Bengal, India during the Bangladesh Liberation War 1971. By applying a multimodal Discourse-Historical Approach, it analyses the strategic use of various references to the Bengali homeland, and their broader sociohistorical implications. The findings showcase a consistent use of terms associated with the Bengali homeland that are represented in a way to celebrate and/or pay homage to its language, culture, people and geographical features. The cross-border solidarity provides valuable insights into the complexities of borders and identity in the post-Independence Indian Subcontinent. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
