Abstract (English): The scholarly article deals with the principles of distributive justice and their significance in political debates as well as current findings from empirical justice research. Four central principles of justice are presented: the principle of performance (reward according to effort), the principle of equality (equal distribution), the principle of need (distribution according to needs), and the principle of entitlement (claims based on ascriptive characteristics such as origin). Empirical findings show that in Germany there is a broad societal consensus in favor of the performance and need principles, while the entitlement principle is predominantly rejected, although it is perceived as being relatively strongly enforced. Differences in support for the principles between income groups and party supporters are small, indicating a broad agreement within the population. [Extracted from the article]
