Abstract: This article focuses on the importance of establishing and revising school district policies for the selection, deselection, and reconsideration of library materials. It emphasizes the critical role of certified school librarians, who possess specialized training and expertise, in developing and implementing these policies to ensure access to diverse, age-appropriate, and curriculum-supportive resources. The article outlines key considerations for creating transparent, legally compliant policies that address budget, vendor selection, review sources, and criteria for adding or removing materials, while cautioning against using deselection as a form of censorship. It also highlights the value of involving learners and stakeholders in the process and encourages collaboration within the school librarian community to maintain vibrant, relevant collections.
