Abstract: The study aimed to analyse the impact of effective mentoring programs on the development of metacognitive and research skills of university students in Karachi, Pakistan. A positivist paradigm underpinned the quantitative research approach, which made data collection, statistical analysis and hypothesis testing more systematic. An exploratory research design corresponding with a quantitative method was utilised. Participants, comprised of male and female undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students from the public and private universities in Karachi, Pakistan, across diverse disciplines including humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, were approached via random sampling technique to gather data in terms of their perception regarding the effectiveness of mentoring programs implemented by their respective universities. Results, obtained by administering statistical tools, indicate a significant impact of effective mentoring programs on metacognitive and research skills of university students demonstrating its usefulness in developing critical thinking, reflective thinking, academic writing and data analysis. The findings underscored the need for mentoring interventions that are tailored and inclusive, taking into account students' developmental stages, academic fields, and institutional contexts.
