Abstract:	The article examines the effects of the group language development program on the psycholinguistic abilities of educable mentally retarded (EMR) children. Sixteen matched pairs of EMR children enrolled in the special class programs of the Davidson County, Tennessee and Nashville Public Schools were studied. The effects of the language development program were evaluated by changes in overall language ages between pretest and posttest administration of the Illinois Test of Psycholinguistic Abilities. The results of the study indicate that the language ages of children with mental disabilities could be significantly increased over a three-month treatment period.
