Abstract: The article discusses the items in the first 13 Part Two domains of the American Association on Mental Deficiency Adaptive Behavior Scale which were weighted for the perceived severity of the kinds of behavior they represent. Though the concept of weighting nonadaptive behavior items for perceived social severity has a nonrational sort of appeal, the information from this study strongly advice that item weighting has no efficient utility with regard to scale construction.
