Abstract: The article reports on the pass-fail system, a grading program used in Brandeis University from 1966 to 1967. Pass-fail more commonly known as satisfactory or unsatisfactory grades has always been the main concern of educators in universities. The program generally suggests that students should study in order to gain knowledge and not just for grades. Moreover, it encourages students to experiment in fields that they have little or no interest to. A combined student and faculty educational policy committee from Brandeis university thinks that pass-fail system suits the objectives of liberal education.
