Abstract: The article focuses on the application of directed discovery in an E-learning environment in the U.S. E-learning is defined as the acquisition and use of knowledge distributed and facilitated primarily by electronic means. Swiss developmentalist Jean Piaget stressed self-regulated learning as opposed to group instruction. The author explains the application of directed discovery as well as its advantages and disadvantages. Finally, the author must be willing to allow students the freedom to explore when using directed discovery.
