Abstract: The article presents the author's experience of teaching at a high school and then graduating to teach at a two-year college. The author states that starting his career at the high school level gave him the opportunity to familiarize himself with interactive and cooperative learning environments, which proved to be a great asset to his teaching in a two-year college. He recalls how he also developed strategies for fundraising and securing itineraries for field trips from his high school experience. The author now teaches at Hartnell College, does research for his Steinbeck class, and participates in other professional organizations.
