Abstract: The article comments on European history textbooks which were written for the upper elementary grades in the United States. The textbooks were written following the recommendation by the Committee of Eight of the American Historical Association to include a sixth grade course in European history. The books feature Oriental beginnings, Greece, Rome, the Dark Ages and narration of events from 1814 to the end of the First World War.
