Abstract (English): This article comprises important elements to reflect and discuss about the different curricular processes in higher education facing the current tendencies of contemporary society and the challenges proposed for education in a globalised, competitive, dynamic and ever-changing world. Following these principles new educative tendencies have been introduced taking into consideration some international projects: Tuning, and 6x4 UEALC and at a national level, the project of curricular modernization, the processes based on competences, the internationalization of the curriculum, curricular pertinence and the educative processes in higher education framed in an integral vision of the human being. Correspondingly, some proposals for curricular development based on competences, the role of the teacher, and the relevance of this model of education in the human development of society are presented. Abstract (Spanish): El presente artículo se constituye en elemento importante para reflexionar y problematizar los procesos curriculares en la educación superior, a la luz de las grandes tendencias de la sociedad contemporánea y los retos y desafios planteados para la educación en el mundo globalizado, competitivo, dinámico y cambiante. En este sentido, se presentan las principales tendencias educativas desarrolladas a partir de los proyectos internacionales, Tuning y 6X4 UEALC, y, a nivel nacional, el proyecto de modernización curricular y los procesos de formación basada en competencias, internacionalización del curriculo, pertinencia curricular y de la formación en la educación superior, en el marco de una visión integral de la persona humana. Así mismo, se plantean algunas propuestas de desarrollo curricular basadas en competencias, el papel del docente y la incidencia de este modelo de formación en el desarrollo humano de la sociedad.
