Abstract: The article discusses the book "The Elements of Style" by William Strunk and E. B. White. Despite the fact that the book is held in esteem by American college graduates, the author believes that it is largely worthless and has significantly degraded American students' grasp of English grammar. The author cites the book's treatment of the active voice and the passive voice as evidence that it is a poor resource for writers, pointing out the fact that many of its examples of passive constructions are incorrect.
