Abstract: Chapter 15 of Part IV of the book "Competence in the Learning Society," edited by John Raven and John Stephenson, is presented. The chapter explores the competency framework of David McClelland, framework's measurement procedures, and the way of thinking behind the measures of the framework. It relates the study by McClelland and colleagues in 1950s concerning motives, particularly for achievements, affiliation, and power motives and compared the results with that in Scaled Competency Dictionary.
