| Abstract: | In this article the author discusses issues arising form the practice of marking for death of killing persons based on their gender. The central focus of the article is on the honor killings of women said to have brought shame or dishonor upon their family usually with regard to sexual offenses. The author notes that the notion that women are repositories of the honor of a family or clan is widespread in Africa and the Middle East. Among other issues the article examines the victims of honor killings seeking to escape arranged marriages. |
