Abstract:	This article discusses the narrative strategies deployed in the writings of African American feminist scholar Anna Julia Cooper (1858-1964) to articulate her views on race, gender, and social change. Cooper's writings are examined with attention to her approaches to voice, genre, and academic discipline, and their role in communicating her message about systems of power and subjugation in society. Works discussed include "A Voice from the South: By a Black Woman from the South," Cooper's dissertation on race and racism during the French Revolution, and others.
