| Abstract: | The article discusses the development of family literacy programs in school libraries. A definition of family literacy is presented and the benefits of increased family literacy on parental involvement in their children's education are explored. Components of family literacy programs are examined and include interactive activities involving parents and children, training for parents in understanding their role as teacher, and age-appropriate educational components aimed at adults and at children. Examples of family literacy nights at schools, organizations supporting family literacy initiatives, and family activities teacher-librarians can present are also presented. |
