| Abstract: |
The author offers opinions the measurement of teacher effectiveness as an element of U.S. education. The development of a statistical means of evaluating the practice of an activity as complex as teaching is seen as impossible. Efforts to develop such standards are attributed to the increase in testing of students to assess educational outcomes. A disparity is cited in which while teaching is said to be an extremely demanding profession, it appears to be easy to outsiders, especially parents and voters, thereby making teachers a convenient scapegoat for perceived shortcomings of U.S. education. |
