| Abstract: |
The article compares the approaches taken to the letter T in the "Dictionary of American Regional English," (DARE) edited by Frederic Cassidy and the "Dictionary of Canadianisms on Historical Principles," (DCHP) edited by Walter S. Avis. A historical review of the study of global varieties in the English language is presented, beginning with the publication of the first historical reference work on American English, "A Dictionary of American English on Historical Principles." Research on the overlap of meanings in DARE and DCHP within semantic domains is presented. The authors of the article discuss revision recommendations to both texts for future editions and the incorporation of online social networking in the field of dialectological research. |
