Abstract: The article discusses a program developed by the California Council for the Humanities (CCH) and the Riverside County Library System (RCLS) in California to promote community civic engagement. The California State Library and the CCH funded the project through a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant in 2009, recruited the cooperation of other libraries, and called the project the Making a Difference program. Library cultural programming, librarian training, and an evaluation of the program are discussed. Library administrators Vanessa Whang and Felicia Kelley are mentioned as project leaders, and California libraries' adult services, employees, and special events for national holidays are discussed.
