Abstract: The article presents a fictional conversation between a mother and child regarding learning strategies, focusing on the role of talking and being critical of others. Neil Mercer and Karen Littleton's book "Dialogue and the Development of Children's Thinking" is highlighted, and special attention is paid to exploratory classroom talk in which students challenge the hypothesis of others. The role of rules in teacher-led interaction and group-based discussion is discussed.
