Abstract: The article reports on research which was conducted to investigate the effect long-term supplementation with increasing doses of camosine and beta-alanine had on muscle camosine, anserine, and taurine levels and on in vitro contractility and fatigue in mice. Researchers evaluated 66 male Naval Medical Research Institute mice who were control fed or supplemented with either camosine or beta-alanine in their drinking water for 8-12 weeks. They found that beta-alanine availability seemed to be the rate-limiting step for synthesis of muscle histidine-containing dipeptides in mice and that muscle histidine-containing dipeptide loading in mice moderately and muscle dependently affected excitation-contraction coupling and fatigue.
