Abstract: The article presents a protocol for exploring positive youth development in conversations with youth, using the Circle of Courage model. The model proves that adolescents can grow to healthy adulthood with opportunities for belonging, mastery, independence and generosity. It presents the case of Warren, a 16-year-old junior high school student who is brought in for evaluation after one joint was found in his locker. The process involves identifying a student's strengths in the four areas of the Circle of Courage, after which several things can be done including creating awareness on the adolescent's strengths, offering suggestions to boost such strengths, and using these strengths to discuss about risky behaviors that need to change.
