Abstract (English): Research on free textbooks in Mexico has centered on the dispute for the control of education, and recently on the procedures of the National Commission of Free Textbooks. Little attention has been paid to repercussions in the publishing industry. In particular, no notice has been paid to the displacement of foreign authors and publishing firms, and the use of nationality regulations in an attempt to limit the writing of free textbooks exclusively to Mexico. From a perspective of the history of books and in a dialogue with diverse sources, this article studies such matters, especially the aftereffects for publishing houses and authors of Spanish origin, such as Herrero Hermanos, Luis Fernández G., and Santiago Hernández Ruiz.
