Abstract: In Mexico, 56% of homes lack access to public transportation infrastructure, violating the constitutional right to sustainable and equitable mobility. In this context, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) establish that, by 2030, access to safe, accessible and sustainable transportation systems must be guaranteed, prioritizing vulnerable populations such as women, children, people with disabilities and the elderly. This article analyzes the spatial impact of public transportation stops on the population of the city of Culiacan, Sinaloa, applying indicator 11.2.1 corresponding to SDG 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities, which refers to the proportion of the population that has convenient access to a maximum distance of 500 m to public transportation stops, disaggregated by sex, age, and people with disabilities. The methodology employs a quantitative approach through Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the network analysis tool. The results show that 98.21% of the population has convenient access to at least one public transport stop, which contrasts with the low percentage of public transport users, evidencing a disconnect between the availability of infrastructure and its actual use, a situation that may be due to different factors such as quality of service, frequency of routes, safety, among others, highlighting then, the need to implement public policies to improve each of these aspects and promote the use of public transport, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals to ensure equitable and sustainable mobility.
